Glad somebody noticed my pics. ![]() Thanks for the kind words. The cars are getting better all the time! If anyone wants to see the '64 in action, come to Virginia Int'l Raceway the weekend of 4/12 and I'll be running the South road course. 4 doors, 6 cylinders, all business... Lou IP: Logged |

That reminded me of what they called my dad's first car-- "4444" (4 doors, 4 cylinders, 4 speed, 4 wheels) It was a '68 Peugot 404 Wagon ![]() Hope the RR comes out cooler than his first car though After this, I also hope he doesn't read this forum I hope you don't mind, but I'll be 'borrowing' some variaton of your engine 'recipe' for the RR eventually Thanks, Adam [This message has been edited by 80runner (edited 03-11-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hey Lou, Got a couple questions for ya, Can you list off the "custom" cam specs (duration, lash, ect) and what rpm's its good for? Also when you did the A-500 swap you had to change the shift linkages right? anything else i'd have to know about? Thanks, IP: Logged |

Justin, No problemo. The cam was ground by a place in LA called American Cams and it has 0.540" lift, 290 deg advertized duration or 250 @0.050", 110 deg lobe centers (pretty sure) and I lash it around 0.025"/0.028". I was able to use the stock '68 Dart shift linkage, but had to fab a cable kickdown for it. If I hadn't moved the motor forward 1/2" on the mounts, I don't think the stock linkage would've worked. Oh yeah, the '64 motor pulls strong to 6000, and I haven't had the guts to take it much past that (stock rods and cast pistons). It starts making good power around 3000, and by 3500 it's wailin'. Torque is decent at low rpms, and I can idle it down to 7/800 rpm no problem (with good ignition and well-tuned Edel 600 or TBI). Lou IP: Logged |

Justin and all, No problem - please make sure to read all previous posts before asking questions. The rears are 8.75" in both cars (see above). Currently 3.91 SG (clutch style) in '64. The brakes are from a kit from www.tsmmfg.com, as I said above, and I installed them as per the supplied instructions. The color is Chrysler Emerald Green Pearl Metallic (mid-late 90s on almost all cars/trucks), and I think the paint code is PG5 from PPG. Lou IP: Logged |

Hey Lou, I've been messing around with Cam files in Desktop Dyno, If you dont mind i think your cam is giving me the best readings for what i want. So i'm gonna go talk to a cam company and order one if you dont mind Ohh those readings are as follows (this is with a stock bottom end and just headers and headwork! HP = 311 @ 6500rpm Justin IP: Logged |

Hey Lou, what kinda vacuum are you pulling at idle in the 64? ------------------ IP: Logged |
|
Dart270 Member Posts: 2929 |
Brett, I pull about 10-12" at idle (8-900 RPM). Keep in mind that this is a 110 deg lobe center cam and I have not degreed it so it could be advanced. Justin, those HP numbers seem a bit high. I am getting about 270 at the crank based on my track performance. Also, if you have the bread, I'd try one of those Ultradyne or Hughes "Max Velocity" cams. Lou IP: Logged |

Hey, Those #'s are off of Desktop dyno, those are "at the crank" performance #'s but i have it set to larg headers open exhaust ect so they may not be real accurate, but they are ball park figures Justin IP: Logged |

Had a great weekend (4/12-13) of road course pounding at VA Int'l Raceway (VIR - www.virclub.com) with the Tar Heels Sports Car Club (www.thscc.com). Put the hurt on a bunch of sports cars on the VIR South road course, passing everyone in my group (intermediate) except a mildly modified '96 M3 and a more modified late-90s 328, both with racing tires (I run Yokohama AVSi street tires). Best lap times were 1:31s around the 1.64 mile course, but I had no completely "open" laps where no one was in front of me either. Topped out at 113-4 MPH at the end of the main straight before braking for turn 1 (at 6200 RPM redline in 4th gear with 3.91 axle ratio). For anyone in the NC/VA area, I heartily recommend a THSCC event - very cleanly run and a nice bunch. Pretty good drivers too. Had a great instructor and made a ton of progress on my driving technique, especially incorporating 5spd smoothness. Only problems were that I broke an alt/water pump belt late Saturday, and I ran off the track once at about 70 MPH at the end of the day Sunday and my upper rad hose popped off, but no worries - easy fixes and no permanent harm done (just a slight pride adjustment). I also recently clocked 24 MPG at 75MPH for a 400 mile trip with the 5spd and EFI. Still a little more tuning to go too... The Megasquirt/Holley TBI combo performed well on the road course, with no excessive heat or problems. I talked to two fab guys about putting a roll bar in so I can run time trials, so that'll happen in the next few months along with some subframe connectors... and some more power. Coupla pics: Cheers, Lou [This message has been edited by Dart270 (edited 05-28-2003).] IP: Logged |

WOW! Sounds like you're really having fun representing the awesome slant! Wish I could have been there. And good gas mileage too! I thought the old blue Valiant was good at 20 mpg--made it home and then finished up our 2000 mile road test by blowing a freeze plug--one that's hard to get to! My projects aren't as fun as yours! My buddy Nathan Swanson drove my '68 Dart in the N. Wilkesboro Slant race on 8/21/04 and went to the semifinals and won $300!!! Not bad for his first day of drag racing ever... Lou IP: Logged |

My dentist is selling his mother's 1965 Dodge Dart 270 2 door. It has 55,000 original miles, all original components, one owner, and has been garaged for ten years. The body, other than a very slight dent in the front bumper, is perfect. Everyone in this tread seems to be well versed in Dodge darts. I'd like to know engine specifications (in today's standards, such as horsepower) of the 270 engine...and possible upgrades, such as intakes, air/oil filters, and suggested exaust systems. Any and all information that you can provide me with will be much obliged. All of the information about the Dart: Dart 270 If anybody knows of a reputable site or otherwise that can provide replacement parts for this car, that too would be great. I'm kind of swinging in the dark here...they got it started in the shop, and are waiting for some parts. I don't really know what this car's future is going to be (Hopefully many years of TLC.)
