Hello All, Well i'm at home bored outta my mind...did some dressing up on the slant but its still too cold here to paint much...was wondering if an 87 with scc still needs a Ballest Resistor or not...hmmmm....if anyone wants a Carter 2bbl carb (they need rebuilding) i can ship them out to you for nothing...i found the motherload here! Found out that the junkyard isnt open so the conversion will have to wait untill next weekend (looking forward to it) hmmmm...what will i have to take off the junkyard beater inorder for me to convert to the old electronics??? I was also wondering what kind of plugs you all use (with there #'s) what type/grade of oil do you recommend for summer use and winter use??? I got a digital cam so i'll post some pics when i get a chance Also what are the recommended tires to use and who makes some awsome rims for a 87 D150 (i got the old white/rust ones ) I'm looking into a hurst shifter for that sloppy old A-833OD! also found out today my truck had a 8 3/4" rear end well i'm done blabbin! your truck will not need a ballast resistor if you use an aftermarket coil when you do your swap. ------------------ IP: Logged |

if you are converting to HEI, all that you need @ the junkyard is an electronic vaccum advance distributor and the plug that hooks the distributor into the new harness. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I ordered my rims from Progressive. American racing also makes a very similar set. 15x8.5 1" neg offset (i think, that offset is assuming the stock 15x6.5 rims had zero offset) -Aaron ------------------ IP: Logged |

Radir wheels ( www.radirwheels.com ) has some nice wheels. They made the wheels that were used on the original batmobile in the tv series as well as a wheel that looks like a torque thrust but will fit your 5 on 5.5" bolt patern. IP: Logged |

87 s/s, Must still be winter up in Winnipeg, you sound like you have a case of cabin fever. My 1987 van service manual doesn't show a ballast resistor for the slant(because they all have a SCC), only for V8 without the SCC. I use Autolite #26 plugs. Might be a little hot, they don't look too bad after 30K miles, maybe a little too clean though. I've always used cheapest possible name brand (Havoline, Chevron, Exxon, etc) 10W-30 oil, always under a buck a quart. As an experiment on my last change I used Valvoline maxlife high mileage 10W-30. I had been using about 1 qt every 900 miles, too early to tell if this stuff will live up to its marketing. I've got the stock rims and Dunlop SP40 205/75/15, nothing special. Is yours really a 8 3/4? How about a 8 3/8? Does it have a removeable cover? My service manual shows 8 3/8, 9 1/4, and Spicer 60/HD. Somewhere I heard the car 8 1/4 is really the same as truck 8 3/8. Clutch Oil? Well, I don't use any. The manual tranny gets Dexron II, changed every 30K miles. from sunny Seattle
