Hello everyone just wanted to show my new 1974 Plymouth Duster project car I bought off eBay for $990.00. If it is descent I am going to restore her. If she is rough I'll just resell it. It looks like either someone kept up with the car or tried to hide a lot of things with grey primer in the trunk and on the body and orange under the hood. Sadly I am sure it is the later... Either way it is my first running driving Mopar "muscle" car and my first encounter with the Slant 6. Keep coming back from time to time as I am always adding to the car and will keep everyone updated on most everything that is done and how I like everything. You'll be able to track the entire build! ------------------ [This message has been edited by daniel_depetro (edited 07-08-2005).] IP: Logged |

It looks workable for what you paid for it; and the body looks straight. I would have bought it... It's funny, but a few years ago my friend bought a 71 Dart, and it had a Summit sticker on the glovebox door right where yours is; that must be the thing to do. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The car used to be blue...the engine compartment is too you just can't see it in the pic as they "primered" over the parts you see in the pictures. I finally made it down to Bid Dick's Rod Shop on 3-20-05. The car was about 800 miles (one way) from my house in Marquette, Michigan. On the border of Pennsylvania/Ohio/West Virginia. The trip went well with no dissapiontments! I started the car let it idle for about 10 minutes and drove her off the lot. I stopped by the gas station where I was going to load her on the dolly. I had so much fun driving it for the 2 miles, that after adding 1/2 tank of fuel I decided to hit the interstate and head north at a rate of 65-80 MPH. I came into the first big town about 60 miles later, and since I had no insurance or plates on the car I figured that was trial enough! I didn't think I'd like the car at first, but it actually has some power, and drives great! It does need a lot of work but as soon as I got home I instantly removed all racing stickers and painted the ugly wing black in hopes that it wont be as ugly, and added a 1972-73 original black snorkel hood scoop to further enhance the looks. I also have a set of 14" aluminum wheels/new tires on it now which help lower the car and give it a more muscle look with their width. The bad thing is that I could only install the rears for now. The front drums are the small bolt pattern. Needless to say I am looking for a disc brake conversion for the front.. ------------------ [This message has been edited by daniel_depetro (edited 03-26-2005).] IP: Logged |

Luckily I picked up an all aluminum cased Chrysler A-833 OverDrive manual transmission and hurst competition shifter. It is about 50 lbs. lighter then the cast iron unit (main body & tailshaft). Now just need to get it installed and get rid of the automatic! My goal is to make an everyday driver with plenty of power to have fun with, and still be great on gas!

Hint: Remove the two bumperettes from the front bumper. 4 bolts, lots of liquid wrench, and a breaker bar'll do it. Looks 10x better without them Did it on my old Scamp. IP: Logged |

Yeah, it isn't too bad. I like it a lot, considering it's my first running Mopar muscle car. I wish I would have never sold my 1969 Dodge Coronet 383 two years ago. It was complete minus engine. I found out today that the Duster it is actually a 225 slant so that is cool. I knew it ran really good down the interstate. I am getting an aluminum one-barrel intake manifold and a cast iron two barrel one also. I am looking for a MP M-1 anyone have one? ...Let the modding begin... ------------------ IP: Logged |

You might also consider an Offenhauser intake manifold. These are made for a 4bbl carb, but with an adapter, you can run a 2bbl carb on it. I have an Offy intake that I had a 2bbl carb on for awhile. The advantage with the Offy intake, is that if you want to switch carbs, you don't have to remove and replace the intake manifold, just carbs and adapters. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well got the 225 tuned up, adjusted the valves, added a much needed valve cover gasket and installed new tires on the front and lowered the front a lot! Also removed the front bumper gaurds! The car keeps getting better looking, and more fun to drive! New pics coming soon... The only thing about the offenhauser is the runners are so short. I am on the lookout for the infamous Mopar M-1 intake can anyone help me out? PLEASE!! Will pay cash! ------------------ [This message has been edited by daniel_depetro (edited 04-06-2005).] IP: Logged |

Hello again everyone. I took some advise and removed the bumperettes. They are only held on by one bolt, which was easily removed with just a 3/8-inch ratchet and a 9/16-inch deep well socket. Helps to have a good kept low mileage vehicle. I also got the front lowered with new 195/70R-14 Kelly Charger front tires on the factory steel wheels. This is just temperary until I get the matching aluminum wheels and Cordovan Grand Prix GT 235/60R-14 on the front. On the rear are Cordovan Grand Prix GT 245/60R-14. Now all I need is a set of 3.90 or 4.10 rear end gears and someday get my two barrel put on, and my aluminum cased 4-speed in... all in good time... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Bumper bolts will come after lots of other things... like some serious body work and paint, new performance clutch, interior work.. anyways I just picked up a set of 3.90:1 gears for the 8 1/4 rear end. That should really help wake this car up! I also gave it a tune-up last night with MSD Blaster ignition coil, Bosch Platinum +2 spark plugs, premium 7mm low ohm impedence ignition wires, premium distributor cap & rotor, PCV, see through in-line fuel filter... The car really runs awesome now. It can squel the tire again! Stock it could turn the original skinny 15-inch tire but with the big fat 245/60R-14 it would barely spin sand! Now still with the 2.76 gears it will squeal from a dead stop (granted not far)...more later... ------------------ [This message has been edited by daniel_depetro (edited 04-17-2005).] IP: Logged |

The scoop is good but that rear wing is just wrong. Everyone has their own tastes but mine would have a factory type go wing. That car will look great when it is painted. It has a nice stance. Give it a nice loud high impact color with some tasty blackout treatment. Chas. ------------------ IP: Logged |
